Canali di Bologna is responsible for the management and maintenance of the water system coming from the Casalecchio and San Ruffillo Dams and for the conservation and promotion of the historical structures that regulate it. It works to safeguard the hydro-geological assets of the city and to contribute to the maintenance of the hygienic equilibrium of the urban subsoil by managing the local water that depends on its artificial system.
Recognising the importance of educating future citizens to respect the environment and to learn about their local community and its history, Canali di Bologna has decided to prepare an educational programme dedicated to students of elementary schools (4th and 5th grades), middle schools and high schools, offering personalised seminars and lessons in the classroom and at its sites, also in view of the inauguration of an educational archive at its headquarters, the future Opificio delle Acque.
Each educational proposal is divided into two parts: the first is a free seminar in the classroom held by an instructor from Canali di Bologna who, interacting with the class through a multimedia presentation and a final quiz for teams, will introduce students to the history of Bologna city of water, its topography and the important functions performed by the network of canals that run under the city. The seminar can be personalised according to the class's educational needs and programme, dedicating more time to historical or technical aspects.
The second part follows shortly thereafter (7-10 days later), and consists in a guided tour of one of the historic Canali di Bologna sites to further expand on the concepts discussed in the classroom. The visits are listed below. If the students have already learned about the topic with their teachers during class hours, it is possible to just book the guided tour.
